Health and Healing WellnessSomething I have come to realize is that there are two motivating factors which have a profound affect when it comes to making a change. They are pleasure and pain. When it comes to pleasure, you can’t get enough of it.  It feels so good that it’s worth doing over and over again. In fact, in some cases, whatever is most pleasurable can become addictive or an obsession. Take a moment and think about something that brings you pleasure… This may include certain foods, having a pet, meditation, meeting new people, learning new things, sex, etc. The pleasure response in the brain tells your mind and body; “Oh Boy, I’ve got to have more of that!” causing your feelings to move into a phenomenally heightened response. And, it’s not hard to understand why this would be a huge motivating factor.

But even more powerful than pleasure, when it comes to motivation, is pain. Pain drives you to seek relief and if you are lucky, possibly pleasure. Usually when in pain the only thing sought after in that moment is to be out of it, as fast and as permanently possible. It doesn’t’ matter whether your pain is physical such as the pain from cancer, or psychological like being stuck in ego believing you must sacrifice yourself for something. Pain can show up emotionally where grief, depression or jealousy runs so deep you can’t stand it – you’d rather die. A broken heart can be just as painful as the feeling of failure. And fear, of any kind, is as painful as regret and resentment. When pain is so horrible that you seek any recourse available, regardless of how way out it might be, you are motivated to make a change and make it right now!

This is usually when I receive a phone call or an email saying; Help Me!  I am in pain… I’ve been here for too long… I want it to stop immediately!  Of course I’m more than willing to do what I can to assist anyone and everyone who is enduring any type of suffering. And often, but not always, once some type of relief is found most people are happy to go back to the same patterns until a flair up or another painful condition arises.  But the pain that was felt originally is a barometer telling you it’s time to fully transform; to do something so different it’s like moving to a foreign country.  This is where doing the work to connect with the essence of your spirit comes in for purposes of true, long lasting, eternal transformation.

Now, I said that From Pain Decisions and Triumphs Happen.  Well, that’s true!  When you are motivated to change fully it’s because deep pain has been endured. The decision to go to the doctor, start therapy, seek alternative healing methods, become a member in a religious institution, hire mentors and anything else that may seem to help is made definitively clear. The choice of “I no longer want to be in pain!” is what drives the decision.  The deep hurting, pain causes, gets you to start movin’ your feet to do something about it without delay. Once the decision is made to get out of pain the motivation of hurting severely directs you toward the first obvious and easiest place to receive immediate relief. And, if that doesn’t work then you go to the next thing and then the next and then the next.

But what if you were to begin the process of working your way out of pain, into being pain free and then into pleasure from the very get go? That can only be done by rediscovering you on the deepest most fundamental parts of your soul. Of course all pain starts on an energy level, no matter what it is. Therefore, if you were to make the decision to truly heal yourself from the inside out you would not only be out of pain but you would triumph victoriously over pain. So whether your pain is loneliness, financial survival, self-deprecation, lack, abuse and more, making the decision to get to the root of the pain allows you to amply triumph and resonate victorious as a shining person experiencing pleasure!
